Colasa 400mg is a delayed-release mesalazine tablet manufactured by UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Mesalazine, also called 5-aminosalicylic acid, acts locally in the bowel to reduce inflammation in inflammatory bowel disease.
Mesalazine helps reduce inflammatory mediator production in the intestinal mucosa. It works mainly at the site of inflammation in the colon and bowel, helping control symptoms and maintain remission under medical supervision.
Commonly reported effects may include headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness, dyspepsia, vomiting, itching, or abdominal discomfort. Seek medical advice if you develop severe abdominal pain, worsening diarrhoea, blood in stool, allergic reaction, or signs of kidney problems.

Treatment of mild to moderate Ulcerative Colitis
Adults: 800 mg (two 400 mg tablets) three times daily for 6 weeks; dose may be increased up to 4.8 g/day in divided doses if required.
Children (≥5 years):
17–<33 kg: 800 mg morning, 400 mg evening
33–<54 kg: 1200 mg morning, 800 mg evening
Duration: 6 weeks
Maintenance of remission (Ulcerative Colitis)
Adults: 1.6 g daily in 2–4 divided doses (up to 2.4 g/day if needed)
Maintenance of remission (Crohn’s disease)
Adults: 1.2–2.4 g daily in divided doses
Children: 400–800 mg three times daily
Elderly: Monitor renal function and blood cell counts closely
Paediatric: Safety and efficacy are not fully established
Commonly reported adverse effects include headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness, indigestion, vomiting, and itching.
Concurrent use with nephrotoxic agents such as NSAIDs or azathioprine may increase the risk of renal adverse effects.
Known hypersensitivity to salicylates or any component of the formulation
Mesalamine should be used during pregnancy only if the expected benefit outweighs potential risks. Caution is advised during breastfeeding.
