Indications

An antibiotic called Trevox is used to treat bacterial infections. Additionally, it is used to treat infections of the lungs, nose, throat, skin, and soft tissues (pneumonia). By preventing the growth of the causing microorganisms, it treats the infection. The dosage and duration of Trevox should be followed exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Pharmacology

A synthetic, broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic of the third generation is levofloxacin. Chemically speaking, levofloxacin is a chiral fluorinated carboxy quinolone. Levofloxacin prevents the activity of the enzymes bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase, which are necessary for DNA replication, transcription repair, and recombination. In vitro, it exhibits activity against a variety of gm-ve.
 

Dosage & Administration                                                         

Adults:

• For acute sinusitis, take 500 mg or 750 mg once daily for 10–14 days.
• Chronic bronchitis flare-up: 500 mg once daily for seven days, 750 mg once daily for three days (uncomplicated), or 750 mg once daily for five days (Complicated)
• 500 mg once daily for 7–14 days, or 750 mg once daily for 5 days, for community-acquired pneumonia
• Urinary tract infections that are not complicated: 250 mg once daily for three days
• Acute pyelonephritis and complicated urinary tract infections: 250 mg once daily for 7–10 days
• Simple infections of the skin and soft tissues: 500 mg once daily for 7–10 days.
• Infections of the skin and soft tissues that are complicated: 750 mg once daily for 7–14 days.
• 500 mg once daily for 7–14 days for enteric fever
• Cholera, shigellosis, enteritis, and diarrhea 500 mg for a mild to moderate case (single dose). 500 mg once daily for three days in cases of moderate to severe pain.
• Children: 10 mg/kg every 12 hours for children aged 6 months to 5 years.
• Children older than five years: 10 mg/kg every day

Interaction

No quinolone should be administered through the same intravenous line with any solution that contains multivalent cations, such as magnesium. Iron, antacids, and adsorbents all interfere with levofloxacin absorption. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use could make CNS stimulation more likely. Taking warfarin may make bleeding more likely.

Contraindications

Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to levofloxacin, quinolone antimicrobial agents, or any other component of this product should not take it.

Side Effects

Levofloxacin is well tolerated by most people. However, there are usually a few side effects. 

• Dizziness
• Headache
• Nausea
• Constipation
• Diarrhea is some of the rare side effects that may occur.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Because the effects on the unborn child or nursing infant are unknown, levofloxacin is not recommended for use during pregnancy or nursing.

Precautions & Warnings

During the administration of Levofloxacin, the following precautions should be taken:
Levofloxacin Depending on the dosage, the injection should only be given as a slow intravenous infusion over a period of 60 or 90 minutes.
A sufficient amount of water should be consumed while taking Levofloxacin to avoid a concentrated form of urine.
During the administration of Levofloxacin, dosage adjustments should be made.
