✔️ Mechanism of Action

Azithromycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, disrupting protein synthesis. It is effective against:

• Gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes.
• Gram-negative bacteria: Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
• Other pathogens: Chlamydia pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila.

✔️ Oral Dosage

• Adults:
  • 500 mg daily for 3 days, or
  • 500 mg on day 1, then 250 mg daily for 4 more days.
  • For Chlamydia: 1 g as a single dose, or 500 mg on day 1, followed by 250 mg daily for 2 days.
• Children (over 6 months):
  • 10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days.
  • Adjusted dosages based on body weight:
    • 15-25 kg: 200 mg/day
    • 26-35 kg: 300 mg/day
    • 36-45 kg: 400 mg/day
  • For Typhoid Fever: 500 mg daily for 7-10 days.

• Antacids: Take azithromycin at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after antacids.
