Ciprofibrate exerts its lipid-lowering effects by:

✔️ Ciprofibrate is prescribed as an adjunct to diet, exercise, and weight management for:
- Severe hypertriglyceridemia: With or without low HDL cholesterol.
- Mixed hyperlipidemia: For patients who cannot tolerate or are contraindicated for statins.
✔️ Side Effects: Tgdrop 100
- Neurological: Headache, dizziness, somnolence, vertigo.
- Gastrointestinal: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain.
- Dermatological: Rash, alopecia.
- Musculoskeletal: Myalgia.
- General: Fatigue.
✔️ Dosage & Administration: Tgdrop 100
- Adults:
- Recommended dose: Ciprofibrate 100 mg per day. Do not exceed this dose.
- Renal Insufficiency:
- Moderate impairment (creatinine clearance 30–80 mL/min/1.73 m²): Take one tablet every other day, with close monitoring.
- Severe impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min/1.73 m²): Ciprofibrate is contraindicated.
- Hepatic Insufficiency:
- Use with caution. Discontinue treatment if AST/ALT levels exceed 3 times the upper normal limit or if cholestatic liver injury occurs.
- Elderly (over 70 years):
- Same dosage as adults, but with added precautions.
- Pediatric Population:
- Not recommended; safety and efficacy are not established.
✔️ Interactions:
- Other fibrates & HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors:
- Increased risk of myopathy, rhabdomyolysis, and myoglobinuria. Avoid concurrent use.
- Oral anticoagulants:
- May enhance anticoagulant effects. Reduce anticoagulant dosage and monitor INR closely.
✔️ Ciprofibrate is contraindicated in:
- Hypersensitivity to Ciprofibrate or its excipients.
- Severe hepatic impairment.
- Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min/1.73 m²).
- Pregnancy and lactation (or suspected pregnancy).
- Concurrent use with another fibrate.
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation:
- Pregnancy: Contraindicated. Although not teratogenic, high doses have shown toxicity in animal studies.
- Lactation: Contraindicated due to lack of data on human milk excretion.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings:
- Hereditary lactose intolerance: Patients with lactose intolerance, galactose intolerance, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should avoid Ciprofibrate.
- Myalgia/Myopathy: Advise patients to report any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness immediately.
- Hepatic Function:
- Conduct liver function tests every 3 months during the first year of treatment.
- Discontinue if AST/ALT levels exceed 3 times the normal limit or if there are signs of cholestatic liver injury.
