Indications

The loratadine pill works rapidly and effectively to reduce the signs and symptoms of chronic urticaria, seasonal allergic rhinitis, and permanent allergic rhinitis. Pharmacology

• Below 2 years of age: Loratadine tablet is not recommended for use below 2 years of age since safety and efficacy have not been established.

Interaction

No information about potentially harmful drug interactions has been reported. Psychomotor performance studies have shown that loratadine, unlike many other histamine H1 receptor antagonists, has no potentiating effects when paired with alcohol. Medications that inhibit or are metabolized by hepatic cytochromes P450 3A4 and 2D6 may be increased in plasma concentrations during concurrent therapy, which can have adverse effects. Cimetidine inhibits both enzymes, whereas erythromycin or ketoconazole inhibits P450 3A4. The blood loratadine levels are increased by these drugs, although there are no known adverse consequences.

Contraindications
